Rice Barrel Company manufactures barrels that are Match grade quality with bench rest capability. These barrels do not require lead lapping or extensive shooting to break in.

Bore Dimension Quality Control:
After the rifling has been CUT, a carbide bore-sizing die is pulled through the barrel to insure bore dimension continuity and to eliminate any tight or loose spots inside the barrel. This critical procedure leaves the top of the lands smooth and polished, equaling the traditional lead lapping procedure.

CNC Rifling Machine:
Rice uses a proprietary, infinitely-variable CNC rifling machine, which has a traditional Springfield type rifling head to single hook CUT each groove.

Rifling Twist:
.32 and .40 – 1/48
.45 to .54 – 1/66
.58 and .62 – 1/66 – 1/72

Grooves:
Round bottom CUT rifling .016 deep. Standard in swamp barrels. Square bottom CUT rifling to .012 deep.

Number of Grooves:
.32, .36, .40 – 6 groove
.45 to .62 – 7 groove

**All of our tapered and flared (swamped) and octagonal to round (O/R) are supplied with crowned muzzles and a fitted, flared style breech plug. Our straight barrels are not supplied with breech plugs installed. The breech plug and installation is an additional charge. See our breech plug page for breech plugs.

Additional Services for barrels:

• We will fit a breech plug for a $25 labor charge (cost of breech plug extra).
• Patent breeches can be fitted for a $40 labor charge (cost of breech extra).
• We will cut dovetails for sights and tennons at a $10 labor charge for each slot. (You tell us where to cut them.)

Muzzle loading barrels are designed for black powder use only. The use of modern smokeless gunpowder will result in barrel failure and serious injury or death. Our barrels are designed for black powder only. Do not use black powder substitutes or smokeless powder.

Straight Octagon MATCH GRADE – Target Barrels for Round Ball Available on Special Order

Available in 1″, 1 1/16″, 1 1/8″, and 1 3/8″ to 44″ in length.
Available in 1 1/4″ in length up to 43″.
Calibers: Available in all Rice Barrel calibers.
Standard twist: 40 – 1/48, 45 – 1/66, 50 – 1/66, 54 – 1/66 with square bottom rifling. Custom twist available for additional cost of $30.
